Here in Eastern Kansas, the soil is rich and wildlife is plentiful. Baldwin City is not only the home of the oldest college west of the big river, but wildflowers in profusion, some patches of the old prairie grasses higher than a tall man's head, squirrels that I first mistook for Maine Coon cats cavorting in the trees, and some fine outdoor recreational resources reserved for public use.
